About the Artist:
Robert Postupak fell for art around the same time he fell for his wife. Timing and Bob never got along.
Bob struggled to fit sketching and painting into his hectic life as a father and husband. Honing his craft sometimes meant waking hours before sunrise. To make up for the early-morning dark, Bob painted vibrant still-lifes: motorcycles and mailboxes reminiscent of Big Daddy Ed Roth.
Bob didn’t let a lil’ sleep deprivation stifle his passion. Instead, he took up a second one – automotive painting and logos. For almost 8 years, Bob embraced the automotive culture, the paints, the materials, and the tools, while continuing to paint and sketch.
In 2008, Bob’s career took a sudden turn. Rob was scrambling between two time consuming projects: an automotive paint job and a portrait of his niece. Bob knew exactly how he wanted to draw the smiley girl in sunglasses. But he was tired of the same-old, same-old canvas portraits. His niece deserved something unique. But what?
Then it hit him: what better to bring a portrait to life then the vibrant pastels and sharp contrasts of automotive paint jobs? A new style was born, and a stagnating art genre was about to get shaken up.
Bob’s portrait of his niece proved his new style had potential. He was ready to take his innovation to a bigger arena: pop art.
Bob tackled the pop art scene with Warhol-esque depictions of The Blues Brothers, Marilyn Monroe, BB King and Goodfella’s. Today, Bob is exploring his new style further with mixed media and edgy techniques – some new, some old, all completely unique.
If you want to see for yourself what happens when you mix a car-man, a dad, and a pop-artist, you can check out Bob’s work in NYC and Philly galleries.
